Powerline Hobbies Yak Part 03

Battery Install and Control check

Well we're just about done... All that's left is to install the battery. In my case I used a Thunderpower 11.1v 1320 mah battery.

Centering the servos went really quick.

The transmitter surprisingly was pretty good. We had no problems, gliches or anomalies.

First Flight
Alan, the resident flight test pilot took the Yak out for the first spin. He had flown one of the first ones here in NE KS a few weeks back and said this one was doing just as well. Just minor trims on the Elevator was all that was needed. He put the Yak through its paces, all the normal aerobatic maneuvers were done and the plane performed them well.

Then it was my turn. GREAT! Alan got the plane up a few mistake high as this is really the first high performance plane I have owned, and did not want to bust it up.
Wow it really snaps on the roll. ZING! It inverted-and back before you know it. :)
Did a few loops and such and then practices some slow flight and dead stick flying. After a bit gave the controls back to Alan he brought the plane in.

It was a success. We flew it a few more times that day and had fun. No incidences just a nice flying plane. And very reasonable cost too.

I have since flow it on very calm days behind the grade school gym here in St. Marys and had a blast... Just found a good patch of asphalt and gave it throttle and away we go.

I did unfortunately have the throttle cocked halfway up upon battery install. I could not figure out for a while why the plane was not starting until half throttle. Man I was confused. I finally figured it out and all went well. I was almost about to fly with it that way, but just for the heck of it decided to cycle the receiver battery and all was good.

I have since re-attached the glass lined cowling. See the following post here. So I should be all set... Now for some good weather.
