Great Planes Yak 55 3D FlightFlex EP ARF Part 4

Aileron servo installation

Well the Yak is nearing completion!
Its about time!

First I installed the servo security clips to get the servo leads the needed length to reach the cockpit. Then, following the instructions I threaded the servo leads through the wings with the provided for pull string. Several times on both sides I had to yank a little more than I wanted to to get the lead to feed through the wing cavity.

Also I used Great Planes Small control horns inplace of the provided ones. I just felt the Great Planes were more sturdy and I have used them on other models with no issues.

Now that that is complete the next step will be the elevator and rudder servos

Aircraft for the elite!?!?

Well this is a little off topic but I just have to include it here!

Besides RC airplanes, I am a sports nut... Cruise the ESPN site a bit and saw an article on Dale Earnhardt Jr, NASCAR NEXTEL CUP driver #8. Well I just recently saw a movie about his fathers life called 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story. Really good movie, I might add. A few sad parts but showed his softer side, Barry Peppers, did a really good job. So therefore I decided to peruse this article.

Anyway, back to the ESPN article. I was reading it and saw that Dale Jr, like other high profile people utilize expensive/high performance aircraft as integral tools to get their jobs done and save time. I mentioned that his was N8JR and that you can track its progress over the US.. WOW!!!! Well I decided to do a little searching and found the following.

Well the pix say it all. They sure are some beautiful looking planes...

Track Dale Jr N8JR

Track Dale Sr N500DE

Forums WattFlyer

WOW! Now here is a great addition to your knowledgebase!!! WattFlyer has loads and loads of excellent content and many people to help with your questions! This was a big help on really learning about LithiumPolymer batteries (lipo). Definately want to make sure you treat those babies with respect!

Found much help on the Aero Ace Air Hog, all the mods and design changes that everyone has incorporated to this little gem of an airplane. More on the AAAH in coming posts.

RC Magazine cloud 9 RC Micro World

Found a great little ezine to fill the need of indoor flying... Yes we (the SMWBers) fly in the gym but I was really looking for a set of models to fly in, well, umm, the living room.

This smart looking little magazine is chock full of good information. I subscribed to it for a year and was granted access to the past issues. I downloaded the most recent one and was going to work my way backwards but the first one was so full of good stuff that it took a while to digest all the data.

John Worth is the Executive Editor and was done a really great job putting this interesting sector of the hobby to print.

Check out the free on-line sample issue... I think after perusing it you will subscribe too.
