E Zone -- Great Planes Yak 55 3D FlightFlex EP ARF review

Nice review of Great Planes ElectriFly Yak 55 EP on e zone by Jim Young.

A snippet from his review

The YAK-55 is a very complete kit, and the available electrical accessories make completing it very easy. The resiliency of the FlightFlex material and the stock 3D performance make this a really nice 3D trainer. The standard stick motor mount makes it easy to upgrade the power system as you gain experience. Overall, I think Great Planes has done a good job balancing crashability and flight characteristics in one model.

Makes me hopeful of a good turnout with my project:

Great Planes Yak 55 3D FlightFlex EP ARF Part 1

Main Wing - Horizontal Stab

Got the main wing glued in. I used foam safe CA from BSI. And I got it here at LONE STAR MODELS on the recommendation of BSI as I could not find all their adhesives locally anymore. Had to put quite a bit of glue around fuse and wing. Both did not quite fit snug.

I measured the leading edge of wing on each side to verify that it was in the middle and did a rough nose measurement for squareness
Installing the horizontal stab went ok. I had to make sure per the instructions that it was square with the fuse. So I took a string and tied it around the engine stick mount and verified it was close. I then took a long ruler from a T-square and did a more accurate measurement. Seemed ok.

Did a quick pix nose on view to get somewhat an idea of finished product... Josef decided to make an appearance. Future builder and pilot.

Great Planes Yak 55 3D FlightFlex EP ARF Part 0

Prelim

It's about time I got started on this... My friends have all been bugging me to get the lead out and get this finished. While I finished up the Fancy Foam Mini Ultimate that I built and still somewhat in a building mode, good mind break, I will be begin by tackling this project.

In reviewing the instructions it looks like this could go fairly quickly. I purchased some servo extensions and security clips and will be utilizing the Fancy Foam gear

I'm leaning toward the Himaxx

Futaba 9CAFS TX settings recorder

Record your settings

Was cruising around the internet looking for info on the Futaba 9C and ran across a website that allows you to store all your settings in an Excel Spreadsheet.

This handy tool was created by Bill Creitz who is a freelance technical writer and illustrator. Tnx a lot Bill for all your work!!!

A short snippet from his site

Why record your 9C programming?

  • Quickly review programming details.

  • Troubleshoot problems and errors.

  • Exchange settings with other modelers.

  • Archive and restore programming.

  • Assure programming is consistent among your planes.

St. Marys Wall Bangers - SMWB Part 6

Events of Saturday April 22, 2006

  • Jim from the west field showed up. Had his SS and other plane first time in the gym.

  • Ross' brought his Jazz Bipe and RC Universe FlatOut bipe. Ross was doing quite a number of aerobatics with the Jazz and got the RCU bipe going around at least once inside. Took the RCU bipe outside and Fr. Heggenberger tried to spear it with his boomerang... Came close!!!

  • Then Fr H stopped by inside the gym after Alan went to the other side of the quad and meet up with Fr.

  • Alan had his Tribute and UFO. UFO was fun to watch. Once he dialed it in it really performed. Now when Randy brings his we are going to have dueling UFO's.

  • Jacq managed to do a number of SS loops. 1 minor mishap, no breakage, and 1 wheel bounce otherwise in the air the rest of the time. Then on Alan's urging did 2 in a row several times.

  • Alan buzzed the flight line with Ross' Jazz bipe. Even gave Jacq a few close calls.. Think he didn't like my hair cut. Got quite a few laughs out of that.

  • No flying for John bummer.. Busted toe. Lost lipo earlier in day so he decided to not chance anymore for the day.

  • Joe brought goodies from TH order Tnx Joe!!
