Great Planes Yak 55 3D FlightFlex EP ARF Part 6
Test Flight.
Well it flew, a long awaited for event!
I seemed a tad tail heavy so we used a Thunderpower 2100 3 cell

That seemed to help a bit. It sure did give it POWER! Straight up we goooooooo!!!
Anyway Alan, my flying brother, gave it a good work thru. He said the performance was ok. It was a bit mushy on the controls. The tail "wagged". When I took it out to the local field on West Field Wednesdays, John a SMWB member dubbed it the "Nerf Yak". YAH! that's a good one!
I flew it around the patch a couple of times and Ross one of the local expert/test pilots got a few rounds in.
I've had it out at my brother's house in Liberty, Mo and it just was acting very strange. Proceeded to crash about 3 times and then I gave up. It got a lot of ground rash as you can see by the pix. Lots of dents and holes. It is a real bummer..
I then had it out at the local soccer fields and gave it another try. Alan again took it thru some maneuvers and then I got on the sticks and proceeded to dump it into the ground due to being too low. My bad. It would not respond, Alan said I probably had it in a stall.
The elevator had received some damage and I thought I had taken care to not apply glue to any parts that would restrict its movement. But, I guess I did, maybe when I used the kicker and it flowed into the hinge/carbon dowl area. Well only one side would operate. What a bummer!! Someone suggested taking that mechanism off and hinging it to give a more full swing in its movement. I might try that... Just have to give it a breather for a moment..
I know the video on the Great Planes site shows them flying it very well in a warehouse. Mine is just not responding that way. Ross says keep trying. Alan says it is a novelty and I am leaning toward retiring it.. I just have to do some thinking.

Here is the site to buy it at Tower Hobbies
Here is a video of the Yak 55 flying pretty nicely.
In the end I am most likely going to gut the components and since it is such a bright airplane I most likely will be hanging it up in my sons room. He will enjoy it and keep the RC flying bug alive!
If the decision is to let it live on I will post some updates here but for now this will most likely wrap up this thread.
Thanks for reading...
