Fancy Foam - Mini Ultimate Series Part 6
First Flight - Thoughts
Being new to the foamie revolution I am amazed that at the resiliency and sturdiness of the this plane. Alan and I when we got everything completed and double checked the CG went across the street to another flying buddies house.
We were going to fly in the cul-d-sac but it was a tad too windy. So we decided to flying in his backyard adjacent field. I did not have a computer radio yet so we flew with my 4 channel Tower Hobby radio. We knew this was going to be hairy as we had no expert level settings to tweak. Well Alan, upon my toss, got the bird in the air. Wow it was jittery, again we knew that going into the flight. Thank goodness for 15+ years of RC flying that Alan has.
Alan took it around the patch, it glides really nicely. The high wind and trees along with not being able to dial the radio in correctly prompted us to cut the flight short. I don't think I even got a flight in. The wind, confined area and the radio not being setup prompted me to not fly it.
That Saturday evening we had the SMWB group fly-in. Alan flew the plane in the gym. See SMWB #5. Even with no wind elements it was a handful.
We then decided, with a lull in the flying, seemed everyone wanted a break, to go outside and give it a go in the quad. Alan again at the controls. It sure is a sweet looking plane. I really need to get a computer radio. Will have to do that shortly.
Alan let me try it and I found I had no right authority. I had to instigate right rudder quite a bit. We will have to get that resolved.. Anyway no mishaps I was able to land it ok not the best landing but no damage. Yippie...
