Fancy Foam - Mini Ultimate Series Part 3
Fuse build
Well I learned a few things for next time. And they are:
- Always tape down all masked areas, WELL. Don't do half a job or a quick and dirty job... Read... over spray!!!
- Get good painting tape and press down to prevent paint creep
- Cut short spares from SAME CF rod not the another one thereby shorting a wing spare D@MN!!!
Things went reasonably ok except for my dork up with cutting CF rods for the nose of the plane.. USE THE SAME ROD AND MAKE TWO CUTS. DONT CUT APPROX 2 INCH PIECE FROM TWO DIFFERENT RODS.. Caps effect done for my benefit.. STUPID.. Oh Well..
Other than that the build is going good.
- Used a very small amount of paint thinner and took off all the over spray. The stripes on wing and elevator did not go to well with that maneuver but where the faint "pink" showed up that came right off.
- Jason one of the SMWB group told me a neat way of folding over the elevator and slightly bending the fuse thereby allowing the tail feathers to slip into place.
- Used a sanding block and pushed/pulled Carbon Fiber rod back and forth to give the glue something better to adhere to.
- Set up a build stand for the vertical spare toward the front of the plane.
- Mounted the wing spares and put some weight on them to make sure they seated well.
The following pix will detail my construction process:
